Principal’s Welcome
Dear Daniel Pearl Families,
It is an honor to have been selected as the new principal of DPMHS and I appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this storied LAUSD community. I plan to draw on my resources and reserves to enrich the school experiences of DPMHS students, families, and staff and to inspire excellence and hope.
As the parent of two teenagers enrolled in LAUSD schools, I know well the challenges our families and students face in learning from home. I would like to commend DPMHS students for their resilience during these unique times and for maintaining their focus on learning each day.
I would like to commend DPMHS staff for their courage in continuing to provide rigorous instruction to our students while juggling home life and the demands of learning new technologies.
I know first-hand the benefits of being part of a small, intimate, and accepting school community like Daniel Pearl Magnet High School, a safe “place to belong.” As an immigrant to the United States as a teenager, I had to learn a new language and culture, and navigate the ins and outs of a complicated school system with my parents. Being part of a small high school staffed with caring adults who supported me made this transitional period much easier. Education is the empowerment that opens doors, and I am grateful for the opportunities that I have had along the way and relish my role in supporting DPMHS students in finding their own paths.
Like most of you, I look forward to our eventual transition back to campus when deemed safe and responsible and to the diverse, thriving culture that sets DPMHS apart from all other high schools, so that we can continue our important work here.
Sincerely,
Armen Petrossian
