HATS/HEADWEAR
Only approved DPMHS logo headwear, solid color with appropriate logos, or logo-free headwear in school colors may be worn on campus; exceptions made for religious headwear.- Any hat with a non-DPMHS logo that has the potential to be interpreted as a gang affiliation and must not be brought to campus. Non-approved hats will be confiscated and may be held indefinitely per District policy.
DRESS CODE
Per LAUSD policy:
All students shall show proper attention to personal safety and suitability of clothing for school activities. Students in these programs shall comply with specialized attire requirements (e.g., lab coats and/or securing hair above the collar) and to industry and/or facility clothing and grooming guidelines.
- Regardless, no attire can create a hazard to the health or safety of the student or others and attire must fully cover private areas. “Private areas” refers to areas typically covered by a swimsuit.
- Clothing, jewelry, and personal items, such as backpacks and book bags, with language or images that are vulgar, sexually explicit, discriminatory, obscene, libelous, contain threats, or that promote illegal or violent content such as the unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or drug paraphernalia, are prohibited.
- Students are allowed to wear sun-protective clothing, including but not limited to hats, for outdoor use during the school day. A school uniform that limits the color of the hats may still be enforced.
- Students who participate in a nationally recognized youth organization, such as Girl/Boy Scouts, 4-H Club, or Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) shall be allowed to wear the organization’s uniform on days that the organization has a scheduled meeting.
Please know that students may not be disciplined or removed from class as a consequence for wearing attire that violates our local, school-site dress code. However, students may briefly leave the classroom to cover, remove, or change the non-complying clothing. If your child is not in compliance with our dress code, you may be contacted by the school. After three violations of the dress code, a parent conference will be scheduled with the administration to determine the reason for non-compliance, and to provide appropriate resources and supports.
TARDY POLICY
Tardies (up to six) - if a student is late to class after the bell rings, they are to be sent to the main office for a tardy slip and marked tardy in MISIS except in extenuating circumstances or they have a late note. Students are not to be out of the classroom 10 minutes after the period starts or 10 minutes before the end of the period. (unless it is an emergency as determined by the teacher)
With every so many tardies, there is a movement of intervention with the student:
- Classroom intervention with discussion of assistance and documentation in the MiSiS contact log. (Six tardies total)
- The school will call and speaks with parent along with documentation in MiSiS. (Twelve tardies total)
- Assigned lunchtime detention where phone privileges are lost with teacher or Magnet Coordinator with class work. (Fifteen tardies total)
