The Magnet School of Excellence is the top merit award category and is only awarded to a select group of magnet schools.
The Magnet School of Merit Awards elevates that standard to recognize member magnet schools/programs that demonstrate an exemplary commitment to academic standards, curriculum innovation, desegregation/diversity efforts, specialized teaching staffs and parent and community involvement.

DPMHS sophomore Jenny Marquez is one of 24 students selected from a nationwide pool of applicants to join PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs (SRL) for its ninth annual summer academy this June, hosted this year at WETA near Washington D.C. this summer for a week of intensive journalism and storytelling training. Participants will work with professional journalists to produce video reports about issues facing young people in the DMV area. Jenny currently is the social media editor for The Pearl Post.

Gracie Huaman wins National First-Generation Recognition and National Hispanic Recognition awards. Both awards are awarded to students (in their respective categories) for a GPA of 3.3 or higher, scoring in the top 10% of PSAT/NSMQT of test takers in their state, and earning a 3 or higher on at least 2 or more AP Exams.

Itzel Luna, class of 2021, has won Stanford’s Daniel Pearl Memorial Intern Award for this summer's program. The Daniel Pearl Memorial Journalism Internship is a paid internship awarded annually to an outstanding Stanford student journalist. The internship itself is in a foreign bureau of the Wall Street Journal and the memorial Fund provides a $6,000 stipend to cover travel costs and other expenses associated with the internship.

Maggie Simonyan won this award which acknowledges and celebrates the contributions of youth and young adults (aged 15+) who have committed themselves to the expansion of a sustainable and broad vision of Robesonian social justice. This award is specifically given to high school and college/adults who have made a commitment to social justice and shown promise in art, athletics and activism.

In 2023 Satenik Ayrapetyan won the Warren Christopher Scholarship from the LAUSD. This is a $20,000 college scholarship offered to 10th grade students in the Los Angeles Unified School District, who demonstrate academic excellence, a commitment to community service and ability to overcome tribulations.

Margarita "Maggie" Simonyan has won the Hamilton Scholars Award. The Hamilton Award recognizes young people for their academic, personal, service and entrepreneurial accomplishments; forty students across the nation are selected annually as winners of the Hamilton Award and subsequently enrolled in AHS’ five-year Empowerment Program.
