Uploaded Dec 09, 2025
This week’s episode of PearlTV features a special Takeover Edition as we welcomed visiting students from Lawrence Middle School into our studio! As part of our Broadcast Studio Simulator, the Lawrence guests stepped into the spotlight to experience what it’s like to be real PearlTV anchors.
During their visit, the Lawrence students took over the anchor desk, reading scripts on the teleprompter, delivering on-camera introductions, and getting a firsthand look at how our studio team brings each episode to life. Meanwhile, our DPMHS Video Production students worked behind the scenes, running cameras, teleprompters, audio, and the control room—demonstrating the full workflow of a professional broadcast.
This special edition highlights the excitement and creativity that come from giving young storytellers their first taste of live production.

PearlTV Episode 2: Travel, STN Wins, and Staff Spotlight
Featured
PearlTV is back for its first episode of 2026! Anchors Marina and Zarina kick off Episode 2 with three standout stories that celebrate student creativity and campus community.
Uploaded Jan 25, 2026
First, Video Production student Brandon Gamez-Molina takes viewers on a virtual travelog to Guatemala, created with green screen and impressive editing—featuring culture, landscapes, and plenty of food.
Next, PearlTV shares major news from the Student Television Network (STN) Challenge, an international, deadline-driven competition where students have just six days to produce film and broadcast projects. This year, Daniel Pearl Magnet High School earned two awards: Second Place in the Short Film Challenge and Honorable Mention in the Silent Film Challenge—making DPMHS the only LAUSD school to win an award in the competition. The episode showcases the award-winning films Mixed Signals (directed by Serena Elkins and Mose Judge-Glascock) and Wishful Thinking (directed by Sebastian Nesh, with cinematography and editing by Mateo Zazueta).
The episode also features a Staff Spotlight with reporter Ethan Sharifi, who interviews Ms. Ruiz about her work as a climate advocate on campus and beyond. Before signing off, Marina and Zarina remind students that Teacher of the Year nominations are now open via the QR code on screen or the Schoology posting.
Catch the full episode—and stay tuned for an upcoming PearlTV feature interview with the student filmmakers behind the STN award-winning projects! -

Spread the Wealth

This silent short film was created by the dedicated STN Crew during the 2025 Student Television Network Convention as part of the annual Silent Film Competition. With just 6 hours to plan, shoot, and edit — and without the use of dialogue — these student filmmakers embraced the art of visual storytelling. The result is a compelling narrative that showcases their creativity, collaboration, and ability to communicate powerfully through imagery alone.

DPMHS Valentine's Day Concert 2025. Apologies for the sound in the final four songs, we had an accident in the back and we didn't have good sound for the rest of our recording so we had to take the audio from the cameras.
